Waiting for apocalypse at Manatargaq

I know your music, It's my exercise tape

For the Last Saturday we went to the Manatargaq psy-trance rave in Telliskivi. I was invited there to take photos of the rave and their crazy visuals. I took the evening bus back to Tallinn, swung by home, attended a birthday and by midnight we were at the door. I was still a bit shaky from the Friday's artsy Christmas party.

Nice to see girls with classical taste in rave outfits.

The line was long with everyone being searched and given an assessment on their clothes' level of sportiness. The guy in front of me was too sporty so he had to block the queue and argue with the security. Our clothes were party and the organizer met us on the door and helped us in. The guys behind us had a huge pastry with them and one of them was always complaining on how gay he looked with his glasses.

Dj Taavi Ilves chilling everyone out.

When entering the party the visuals were mind blowing. Too bad not that many people had gone for the neon clothes as the black lights were almost everywhere. Some had gone for the white look, I don't know if especially for this last Saturday night. I just wore my casual ski outfit.

Me, straight from the snowy slopes of Estonia.

There were three rooms, one of those was a chill out area where Taavi Ilves was playing his set. The main room was the place to be with it's massive light show and two buoy dancers.

I couldn't take me eyes of of her two buoys.

I can't recall much of the music as I don't know much about psy-trance other than it goes something like: "diggidi diggidi diggidi viiiiiiiuuuuuuüüüüt" at least that's what I was explained last time. But people enjoyed it and were dancing and showing off their glowing things.

This is almost what happened.

A friend told me that this time it was like a builders Christmas party, when usually it's mostly hippies in gowns. I guess the hippies were preparing for the apocalypse somewhere.

Didn't see the second room fill up, but the light was cool.

The shower booth in the bathroom got converted into a powder room with men trying to see how many of them could fit in at once. The only stall was also forever occupied. I didn't mind, because I've done the same thing. Passed out in the only stall and wondered why people were banging on the door while I was trying to rest.

I think someone spiked my camera because at some point it started seeing things.

It was hard sometimes because there was lots of smoke for the lasers which made the flash completely useless. Out of the 150 photos I took here you have the best. Overall this is one of the most colorful shoots I've done at a party.

This guy came to the future to see the apocalypse.

The apocalypse is coming, so the only wise thing left to do is to listen to my tracks and like my page on Facebook. If you do that, the angel below will save you and take you to the never ending angel rave in heaven or a space ship.

The rave's guardian angel.
It's been nice knowing you all,
merry apocalypse and see You in hell!

Birthday feat. Badass Yuki

Nothing good happens after 5 am?

Hey hey!
As I went on Soundcloud it turned out that I hadn't given you anything to listen to for a couple of months. Here's a remix of Badass Yuki - Rollercoaster Town. It's more or less finished and it's here exclusively, if you like it, then download it, as it won't be here for long.

Badass Yuki - Rollercoaster Town (Barthol Lo Mejor remix)

On Friday I got off work at half past one and started for the birthday party. The only problem was that I didn't have the address and the birthday boy wasn't picking up his phone.

No idea what happened

I did what I could and headed in the general direction and started going through the contacts on my phone to ask them if they had the address. The third or fourth person under the letter B gave me some general guidelines. Some ten minutes later I saw a guy in red pants with two girls in a bus stop.

On the phone to Mr Congressman

The red pants seemed to indicate that they were the kind of crowd that could have been to the birthday. So I asked them:
"Are you coming from Tõnis' birthday?"

Pretty accurately captured scene

"No! But you do know where he lives?"
"No, not really."
And so I got the directions for the house. It was on top of a restaurant and the party was in full swing.

Bikes and bathtubs, enough to make a girl happy.

I stayed until half past four when it seemed reasonable to move. With two girls we started heading towards Protest which was in the general direction of my home. On the way I got a crash course in ugly wedding dresses which were on the store window.

Smooching.

Protest was decent and people were dancing even though it was 5 am. I was too out of it to get a clear photo of it all.

White wine.

I ended the night with finding a friend in front of Hesburger and got into his taxi. I was in my bed at 6 am, getting ready for the morning after.

Kicking it and licking it.

See you in Nälg on Friday!

Festival fever #4 [updated]

Look, no one is listening to you, put on some retro tunes.

This weekend was filled with festivals. Mõisa Karneval was yet again a rad party. Last yeat I had undiagnosed pneumonia during it, but I still stayed and played.  The weekend drained me completely so I'm just mostly going to post photos.

The man behind Mõisa Karneval

On Friday I played at a remote corner of Estonia where the borders of Latvia, Estonia and Russia meet. People attending were mostly young mothers. It was cool trip to the countryside even though the crowd wasn't feeling the music. Saturday morning I took a car to Võru, missed the bus, but got another one and walked something like 5 kilometers through Põlva to hitchhike to Mooste. I was lucky to stop a car on a narrow road inside the city. They took me straight to the festival.

This summer's first festival for me.

At mõisa Karneval I was greeted by the faces of "the second day" and my +1 who was about to leave for his cat's funeral. I didn't mind because the manor was filled with great people I knew and was about meet. I was to play first, but I didn't actually mind, because that gave me more time to enjoy the festival as I had missed the first day.

Marco Tasane live concert with dancers.

We did loads of fun stuff that I fail to recall at this moment. It's almost midnight and I'm still recovering. I did manage to see at least a couple of songs by Shelton San and Marco Tasane. I have no idea where the time vanished, but I did manage to stay up until 6 a.m. It was such a wild night that the new slip-ons I wore there are almost destroyed.

I started the set with Bong Ra, as I was pretty sure that people would spend the most of my set outside. To my amazement there were youngsters who came to dance and by the end of the set there was a pack of teenagers who wanted me to teach them how to Dj and something else. They also kept keeping me their drinks whenever they liked what I was playing. One of the biggest hits was Chopper - Viawhore, an Estonian hard electronics track from around 10 years ago. The producers is playing in Talbot now. I got to play another set at 4:30, but soon enough an insisting girl came and forced me off to let Uku play psytrance.

Even the second day was hard for some.

The morning after with Tutti Frutti

The Sunday morning was a hard one, as most of the people who woke up were still drunk and it was hard to leave all the great people and good music behind and go back to the city. A cider, a swim and a drive later we were back in Tartu and there was nothing else to do than spend the hot day on the beach.

Mart Manic, the techno man said that he had to end up on Fluon, so here he is. Enjoy it Mart!

See you soon

Delayed! Broken! Canceled!

Your computer output is broken, no soundcheck and your live is an hour later than planned. Does this sound like the start of the best party?
Well it was.
I used the Lexicon soundcard of the Krahl sound guy (thx). After Zebra and Snake I threw on the Tallinn Daggers remix and we went crazy. Even though the tempo and feel of my song was twice as ecstatic. You were crazy on the floor and I was crazy on the stage. For that half an hour we were unified in the beats. Dj Vattu came to give me a hand on knob twiddling and also a very refreshing zip of rum (various animals had drunk all the alcohol in the backstage).
not a photo of the best party

Hundreds of people at the party. The stairs too crowded to go downstairs to smoke or to listen to the reggae party below. Lots of cool artists in the backstage and among them Mia the superstar organizer who only ate caffeine and peach cigarettes and didn't allow her best friends backstage not to mention the groupies or the spaced out dancer-promoter guy. She was strict and it was cool like that. The act that cancelled was Henry, a good friend of mine from the Dance marathon (the blog post for that), but luckily he got to play the outro for the party. His ambient sweeping the room as the Mc rhymed and beatboxed and I was embracing my fans while Emer the star Vj accused me of being a rockstar. Which as you know I am not, but to be sure come and see next time as I bang my cowbell, the sister of all instruments. More on that next time.

A special thanks to all the friends that were ravin away. We will go crazy again soon and people who missed Tallinn, we'll meet in Tartu on the 10th in Plink plonk.

Barthol Lo Mejor - Popdada

The book "Popdada" by Barthol Lo Mejor is now complete. It is a book about the lives of eight members of the creative popdada subculture. Lives filled with parties, DIY design, making music, love, unbelivable interior design, strange language and cafeine. Layout is done by one of the best - Martin Rästa. The critics have claimed his writing to be so sharp and on the point that it could kill a person. The book is meant for the children of the 21st century who have a fairly short attention span, so each chapter is a relatively short one and isn't present in the next one as it could be considered a parallel universe.
At the same time the first album of Barthol Lo Mejor is also been released under Robodada records. It is called "Popdada nites" and it's in the shape of an USB bracelet and packed into a nice rhythmbox. The first of these albums come on a black bracelet and only 50 of those are made especially for the true fans and collectors.
