#180 Lomo Fisheye photos

Welcome back!

This time the post is all about Lomo Fisheye photos. Special thanks to Olle for letting me lend it and to everyone who gifted me film for my birthday.

Enjoying wine in the kitchen.

The Neon Gold mixtape is on the way, here's the first peek at the design that once again was my responsibility and the first track. Most of the tracks have been formerly released on the web. However they have been creatively mixed together to give them a new context and to reveal new sides to them. Some of the 17 tracks are unreleased.

Special places for spoons in their hearts.

Not enough chairs in the kitchen.

The decks at bar Noorus, playing Danger Danger.

Dj Cyprien on the decks and princess shots.

It was getting late.

But it was still fun.

And shots.

Red Emperor celebrating women's day.

Working on graphic art.

Riding the neon rod in the rad office.

Snow or sun, the sea is fun.

See you soon!

Waiting for apocalypse at Manatargaq

I know your music, It's my exercise tape

For the Last Saturday we went to the Manatargaq psy-trance rave in Telliskivi. I was invited there to take photos of the rave and their crazy visuals. I took the evening bus back to Tallinn, swung by home, attended a birthday and by midnight we were at the door. I was still a bit shaky from the Friday's artsy Christmas party.

Nice to see girls with classical taste in rave outfits.

The line was long with everyone being searched and given an assessment on their clothes' level of sportiness. The guy in front of me was too sporty so he had to block the queue and argue with the security. Our clothes were party and the organizer met us on the door and helped us in. The guys behind us had a huge pastry with them and one of them was always complaining on how gay he looked with his glasses.

Dj Taavi Ilves chilling everyone out.

When entering the party the visuals were mind blowing. Too bad not that many people had gone for the neon clothes as the black lights were almost everywhere. Some had gone for the white look, I don't know if especially for this last Saturday night. I just wore my casual ski outfit.

Me, straight from the snowy slopes of Estonia.

There were three rooms, one of those was a chill out area where Taavi Ilves was playing his set. The main room was the place to be with it's massive light show and two buoy dancers.

I couldn't take me eyes of of her two buoys.

I can't recall much of the music as I don't know much about psy-trance other than it goes something like: "diggidi diggidi diggidi viiiiiiiuuuuuuüüüüt" at least that's what I was explained last time. But people enjoyed it and were dancing and showing off their glowing things.

This is almost what happened.

A friend told me that this time it was like a builders Christmas party, when usually it's mostly hippies in gowns. I guess the hippies were preparing for the apocalypse somewhere.

Didn't see the second room fill up, but the light was cool.

The shower booth in the bathroom got converted into a powder room with men trying to see how many of them could fit in at once. The only stall was also forever occupied. I didn't mind, because I've done the same thing. Passed out in the only stall and wondered why people were banging on the door while I was trying to rest.

I think someone spiked my camera because at some point it started seeing things.

It was hard sometimes because there was lots of smoke for the lasers which made the flash completely useless. Out of the 150 photos I took here you have the best. Overall this is one of the most colorful shoots I've done at a party.

This guy came to the future to see the apocalypse.

The apocalypse is coming, so the only wise thing left to do is to listen to my tracks and like my page on Facebook. If you do that, the angel below will save you and take you to the never ending angel rave in heaven or a space ship.

The rave's guardian angel.
It's been nice knowing you all,
merry apocalypse and see You in hell!

Polymer festival psy rave and dance act

I heard it was a crazy set with a dead guy by the stage

This week I went back to the Polymer festival to see Henri Hütt's dance act. Henri is a good friend and a talented dancer and we did a project together back in 2010. During the evening there was a psy trance night Manatarq there.

The psychedelic rave visuals were cool.
Listen to Speed Courrier as you read on, it's downloadable.

The dance performance was very visual. It had Daft Punkish helmets, remote control cars, a gun and bear traps. It combined text, music and video with simple movements and continuous flow. All the people barely fitted into the black box to see all of this. There was another play on Sunday, but that was it. I recommend to see Henri's techno-minimalist dance performances if you have a chance.

A photo from Burroughs, the contemporary dance show.

The Polymer festival is an exciting event and I will analyze it's artsy side in another web publication, but the night I spent there was no less inspiring. I had just helped a friend move from his nouveau rich neighborhood to an established squat. We had wine, beer and meatballs and a slight urge to do something with our Friday night. So we went to Vabaduse väljak, skipped some bars and came across some giggling friends. They told us that there was a party in the house, but they couldn't get in the door. We managed to finally get in after calling about ten different people who might have been attending (none answered). But there was no party. Not a person came to the door and the windows were dark.

Psy trance enthusiasts going to the rave

That's when we found out about the free psy trance rave at Polymer. We set course for that and got another two guys to join us on the way. I haven't been to that many psy trance events before. Maybe only the stage at Robotaanika Park a few years ago. One of the enthusiasts explained psy to us as: "diggidi diggidi diggidi viiiiiiiuuuuuuüüüüt." It was fun though. The scene is an interesting and a multicultural one. There were also different substances present in the blood flow of the goers.

Lounging with psy.

We soon found Henri and the others from where the dance act had taken place and we joined them. People were having shots of tequila, mixing rum and playing with the remote cars from the play. We set up an obstacle course for the cars and raced against each other. Several uninvited guests wanted to join us. It might have been the tracks I was presenting to our little group.

The rascals with spray cans

There were crazy things happening all around the factory. Someone was carrying a passed out girl. Rascals had stolen two spray paints from Soho Fonds lounge and were writing smut on the walls. What happened in the neon lights of the dim main room you can only imagine, but there were people making out elsewhere.

Put your leg in the air like you just don't care

A great end to my experience with the Polymer festival. It's a shame they didn't let me play, but hopefully it will change next year.

Cheers!

Night of wet fun! - updated photos

Erasmus - orgasmus.

The best part of this week was the pool party on Friday. It was organized by the Erasmus student network. Lately one of the best concepts. You know how wild student parties can get. To get there we had to break through the heavy rain (no snow yet). The Aura center pools were full of international girls in bikinis. There were different saunas, water slides and light therapy, which was our favorite. You get to stare into a lamp for half an hour, that's a priceless experience.

The clearest photo I got.

It was hard to take photos because it was so wet by the pool, everything, even the air, was wet. There was a limbo contest and a ten-man-swim against the stream. All the winners got Red Bull. By the end of the party the mixture of alcohol, light therapy and Red Bull had produced a strange state. Luckily there wasn't water deep enough to drown in.

The goers through the haze.

We went to the exhibition opening of Gabriela Liivamägi on thursday, she's one of Fluon's favorite photographers and my banner up there is one of her photos. The exhibition was in Genklubi and Uebanda was playing afterwards. She had big and even bigger photos up, some of them finished with industrial glaze. It was a great exhibition with strong portrays.

Another photographer at the exhibition.

I had some photos of the opening, but my computer refuses to turn on. I can't add photos, but I can finish writing this post on my sister's computer. My computer works again so I got to upload some photos. Read about how a mustache saved my computer in the next post.

Gabriela's big portraits.

I've been getting played on Radio2, once or twice per day and sometimes even on prime time. I'll have some great news soon, if everything works out. There might be a secret gig coming up soon, look out for it on my Facebook page. Enjoy this last image from when we were playing with Zuks in Nälg.

How to go to parties for free.

Hey you!
During my 10 years of festivals, shows and parties, I have come upon different techniques for going to parties for free. I have tried most of them. I know that all of them have worked at some point. Here are 10 best ways.

1. Say you're on the list.
As they check it, glimpse at the list and then read someone's name from there. You have to be an expert at reading backwards to pull it off. You can also say that you are a performers +1. Get real names of band members for that and then say something like: "I'm Max Power's +1. He plays bass in Emo Dwarves" It works better if you make it there before the band. If this plan backfires then you could be refused entrance even if you pay.

2. Get on the list.
Contact the artists playing and tell them you would love to be on the list. Offer something from your part in return. Bring extra friends, help with posters or just fill the empty +1 slot. It helps if you know the artist or have caught his attention beforehand.
Or volunteer to help out the organizers. Contact the team and offer to help them build the stage or distribute fliers or drive around. At best you could get a +1, just make sure no one steals it from you.

3. Pretend you are the artist.
There are many ways to do this. A Dj friend of mine used to take his vinyls along and convince security that he's playing (he even convinced DJs and played sets at parties he wasn't invited to). Other people have done it with guitars and bongo drums at indie parties. If you catch the real band entering then stay close and act as if you are one of them, sign a few autographs.

Still waiting for the ticket? You could have climbed over and had a drink by now.

4. Negotiate a special deal.
This usually works when there's 4 or more of you. Try to get a deal where 4 people only pay for 3 or 5 pay for 3 or go in for free. Tell them that you just want to have a drink. Venues mostly make their money from drinks and organizers and bands earn from the door. So you have a better chance if the door is controlled by the venue. They might let you in for a lower cost just to get you drinking there. It's not free, but it's better than nothing.

5. Climb the fence.
This works with parties and festivals that are at least partly outdoors (smoking and toilets). We used to frequently climb over a house to get to a venue. I got caught once and twisted my ankle when jumping down. There's also a possibility of getting beaten up and thrown out. Depending of the venue this could be the easiest or the riskiest of options.
You could also cut the fence like they did at Woodstock 69: "on the first day of the concert a radical group, called the UAWMF (up against the wall mother*******) cut the fences and allowed everyone in to the concert for free" - Scotty Smith.

6. Rush the door.
There are two ways to do it. Go through like a boss. Act natural, ask for your hand band and nod to the security. At the same time an expert asks something in the lines of: "Where's the organiser?" or "Is that group here already?" Similar to #3 but takes more confidence and less props.
The other option is to sneak. Have a friend stage a diversion or hide between people going in. These hardly ever work as they are the most obvious ones, but if you see the opportunity then try it for that extra adrenaline rush.

At least one of them came for free.
7. Fake the mark/band/stamp.
You could reuse someones band. If it doesn't come off intact then just cut it and reseal it with clear tape. To duplicate the stamp, lick your hand and copy it off someone's hand. At art school parties they might use a regular marker to draw "special marks" if you have the right color they can easily be copied. When you walk through the door act as if you've passed security ten times during the night already. We almost made it to Deftones' backstage with special wristbands, but we got stopped by the manager and were exposed by the simple fact that we weren't girls (see #10).

8. Go early.
Venues might be open a couple of hours before the party for sound check and other stuff. Walk in half an hour before the party and fall asleep in the toilet, hide behind the drapes, or talk to the artists until the party starts.

9. Get accredited.
Go as Press and cover the party on your blog, school paper or wherever. Also works for photographers, as parties need people taking and sharing pictures. You can try to pretend being accredited if your camera looks believable, don't try this with your iPhone app.

10. Be a woman
There's not much you can actively do about this one. If you are an attractive woman and know how to carry yourself, then someone else might pay for you. I don't know more than, it involves pretty dress, standing in front of the venue and looking lost. Ask your mom or friends for details.

Do you have any additional ideas? Leave them in the comments.

Girls don't like to pay. Face removed by request.

While all of these methods might be fun and effective, remember to contribute to the artists and organizers. They work hard to make the party happen and if you don't pay they might be left with debts and no motivation to organize another event. Use these tricks responsibly and support the music scene.
If you are an organizer then take notice and fix the security holes at you event. Thanks to everyone on Facebook who helped to improve the list.
See you at the next party!

Patareiv - Prison rave.

"I saw your live 3 years ago. Me and a couple people enjoyed it, but I'm not so sure about the others."
Hey you!
Patareiv was one of the funnest parties in a while. Mixing good music, friends and tasty drinks produced special moments.

Happy for her new "Blo me" shirt.

The party started at  6 but most of the people didn't show up before midnight. I was playing to a crowd by then. Four stages altogether and our stage was built on an ancient soviet truck. It was very suitable for heavy machinery bass. There were also stages for techno, house and psy trance/dubstep.

Photo: Alver Linnamägi.

My set was heavy. I didn't play any old harder and faster tracks except for "Windshield pfeiffer" as the encore (even despite that one girl on the right shouting she didn't want to hear another one). I sang on the "Pick up track" and "Urge to follow". The rock soundguy provided me tips for the vocals. Some true fans were really rocking it to "I dig dirt" and other wild bass ones. There was also a guy shouting for something mellow and my dear kid sister. I changed from my Punisher shirt to my "Blo Me" shirt during playing. A girl dancing in the front row threw me candy, a carambar with a weird joke. I threw my shirt to her, as the crowd was shouting: "Give it to her! Give it to her!". Congrats to all the proud owners of a "Blo me" shirt. The shirts have now been sold out.

Photo: Alver Linnamägi. My sticker collection.

Thanks to everyone for listening and dancing. I hope to meet you again soon and in the meanwhile we'll stay in touch on facebook and of course here on Fluon. Remember to download my tracks from the player up there on the right.>>

Photo: Alver Linnamägi. You can photoshop your face there.

I loved the set by Anthelia. It was heavy and gabberish, but with housish chords like "Benny Rodrigues - Rotterdam". I also liked Rhythm Doctor, Talvik and Marek Poel. I send my regards to Redlip (Fluon crew) whose Traktor controller didn't work anymore when it was time to play. I hope it will resurrect. She was recording my live show so you might see my show even if you missed it at Patareiv.

Lone techno dancer in the beginning of the night.

We kept dancing until the dawn and were blessed with a fresh dance move - "shark jaws". I'm sure you can imagine how to move your hands to imitate a shark. It goes into the vault with such classic moves like Chernobyl child plays ping pong and "lost in the woods (bewildered eyes)".

Extreme prison planking.

The night ended with rescuing a stray guy from on top of a big pipe. At first it looked like extreme planking, but then he explained that he had wanted to stage a prison break. He got tangled in barbed wire and couldn't get down anymore. With our guidance, he climbed down in no time and left for home. The photo was awesome, but the guy contacted me and asked me to remove it. Now it's up to you to fill the gap with your granny or whoever you would like to see planking there.

Sunshine underground.

We continued partying until 10 in the morning. We escorted Alver to get his photos developed and had a breakfast in old town. Then I went to get my well deserved two hour power nap. I hope your weekend was something as good (at Flow festival for example).
See you soon!

Three party mix

"What do u mean u have to organize a festival? What's more important? Work or some party?"
Hey you!
Another weekend has passed. It doesn't really matter what day it is during summer. We're trying to balance work and fun, but there tends to be more of fun. It's especially hard if the first party starts at 11am on a friday, a birthday at 4pm and then another one at 9pm. It births some great stories to share though.

The first party was at Nott, where they were playing music from the terrace. They were also live broadcasting it online. I would like to play a Dj set there next time. I'm almost done with my new mix for my fresh Ep.

We Djed using his Traktor S4 midi controller at the first birthday. I'm used to playing on it, as we use it with Redlip when we play as Fluon. It was a good day as I was happy with my mix. Too bad we didn't record it. I'm also rehearsing for my live at Mõisa Karneval. I've got to get my rap on and to prepare some of my fresh tracks.

We found this cool chandelier at a birthday.

Afterwards we went to a birthday at the countryside. At first we had to play Turkish football. The party lasted until 5 in the morning. There were so many mosquitoes inside that I spent the night sleeping on a table outside. In the morning, a guy called me tablemn because of that.

How to play Turkish football>
It's like regular football with some changed rules. It lasts 2x20 minutes or until there are players. After every 4 minutes every player takes a shot of vodka. If a team goals, they have a shot. If someone commits a foul, they drink a shot. At half time everyone has a shot. If the ball falls into the pond then the whole team jumps in to salvage it. The game resumes when the goalies have returned.

As Mõisa Karneval approaches my set is being polished and upgraded. I'll post the mix in my next post. I'll see if I can get that photo of me in a suit as well. You should really join us there for a good time. Leave a comment if you enjoy summer parties outside.
See you soon!

It's My time to...

"Tartu nightlife won't be same without you"
Hey you!

I've recovered from midsummer's wild party. It was by the biggest lake. At some points it felt like a sea. Beautiful nature and good company. There we took the truth or dare to a new level. The truth option was banned, only dares were accepted. Unbelivable things happened, here are some photos from our game.

Girls kissing

I just graduated from Uni. I now have a BA and according to the speeches I heard, a long way to go on my academic path. The best part was when my friend from Paris congratulated me with a bottle of prosecco. We continued to celebrate in the park and had dinner after that. I might post that photo of me in a suit soon.

This was supposed to be a lapdance

Nothing is keeping me put anymore. I'm considering moving to Tallinn or maybe further to Berlin or NYC. I will figure it out during summer and I'll let you know once I've decided. But before that we still have to celebrate summer together.

Doing it in doggystyle
I've been working on a crazy electro track, but it still needs some taming. The next thing I want to give you is a mix of all the tracks that should be on my coming Ep. After that I will give you me, rapping the pick up track on stage, at Mõisa Karneval. It's a must go festival and I hope to see you there for good times sake.

Having a drink from her bellybutton

I now have more time to work on my tracks and the EP. I will keep you posted on the progress. If you know any net labels who might be interested in releasing my tracks then contact me.
See you soon!
