#191 Berlin - Freak Carneval

I don't believe there is anything in the whole earth that you can't learn in Berlin except the German language. - M.Twain

Berlin is a dirty city and it's filled with all sorts of freaks, that's what makes it interesting. This Saturday we ended up a punk club called Rauchhauskeller. They had the most interesting ticket security feature I have encountered. They painted a nail of the visitor green. People were dancing to the wall of speakers while the techno Dj was behind them. The beer cost an euro and the entrance was 3-5€. We also ventured next door to a strange garden thing. I can't even begin to describe it.

The two of the rarest creatures ever caught on a
photo - an unicorn and a photographer.

From Friday to Monday the Karneval Der Kulturen took place. We made it down on Sunday.  Enjoy the photos of the outfits, cosplay and street fashion. There were endless cars with different groups who identified themselves by their nationality or interests.
People were dancing, mingling and drinking various festive drinks. There were also a selction of local street foods, we went for some Samosas which I had in Barcelona last time. The locals took part by throwing water from their balconies, considering it was 30+ degrees outside, it was a good thing.

The punk club. I was too tired to look for a person
to ask if photos were okay so I just snapped some shots.
Look there's an unicorn.

Next door to the punk club there was the garden party. We had to make our way
through a maze of old cars and wagons and then we saw a surreal stage
with music and old hippies dancing.

The japanese cosplay paraders, who could have just wandered
around freely, instead of being in the rope cage.

Balloons were a must and there were some funny incidents that
I witnessed but couldn't really capture.

There was a popular group of four or five spidermen, one of them had to be the
black spiderman, I guess the shop had run out of the red ones
and he was the last one there.

People were sitting and doing other stuff where ever, no one cared.

Against all odds, this was the guy playing the hardest techno,
with the tibetian girls serving food next to him.

Some people just took their paints with them and painted their friends at the
festival. The guy looking at the camera was pretty much the only one
I asked for a photo.

The Sri Lankans.

It was okay if you forgot your wig, you could buy everything you needed from right there.

Neon was the safest dress code.

On the edge of the festival I discoverd this guy
and dug his style. He is wearing Adidas winged sneakers.

See you next week.

Stylish weekend

Play the original track!

The crowd at Noorus.

Welcome back,
Thanks to everyone who came to Noorus. It was mad fun. The Friday night was the longest one this weekend. First I played a three hour set at Noorus. Before I took over from Ellen Vene and Elisabeth Aare, the police raided the place and asked everyone for ID. I was lucky to have mine on me, as otherwise the night could have been short.

Taking a selfie in a selfie at Rundum Photo Expo.

At the same time a model was celebrating her 18th birthday in the back room. I didn't get the time to go there, but people kept telling me stories about what was happening while I played in the front. As always I got a bunch of requests while playing. I did have a remix of one of those to play.

Girls gambling

After Noorus we went to see the afterparty for Tallinn Fashion Week at former club Korter. It was now called Välk and we made it there at 4:30am. Jack Dj crew was playing and yet again models were strutting around. I was told that models hate to be asked if they are models. As the vibe was strange there I headed out towards Protest in an hour, where our friends were supposed to be.

The rave crew came to raid Noorus

As we made it there Jack Dj crew was playing and there weren't any models. I was asked to play as I had my records with me. The speakers had been blown so I played around 6 songs of bass rumble and then quit it.

The models and I leaving Noorus.

On Sunday we went to a birthday which took place at a secret venue. I was forbidden to take photos, because "it makes people nervous"(?) but check out the coolest toilet ever down there.

Put your hands in the air, Välk Fashion week afterparty.

That was this weekend, check out the scheduled shows and come to have fun with us.

The coolest toilet, there's even a bed in here.

On other fashion news, another H&M was opened in Tallinn. I haven't been to any of them yet.

See you at the Birthday of Estonian Depeche Mode fanclub,

Tallinn Fashion Week 404...

Don't make a disc, print t-shirts or something instead

This weekend was about three events. The Tallinn Fashion Week, Apartment 404 and the ending of Artishok Bienalle at EKKM. I wandered into all of them half accidentally. Read on and also make sure to come to Genklubi this Friday to see my DJ set.

If your friend doesn't want to dance then just rub your crotch to his head.

It all started on Friday when I was dragged to EKKM for the Artishok Biennale end party. I didn't mind because Kiwanoid was playing his robotic live there and it had been a while since I had been to one of it's nights. If you've never been, but want to get a feel or just to remind yourself, then here's a short clip about it.

I was just kicking it on Saturday, until another friend who is leaving Estonia gave me a call. I can't even count all the people we've sent abroad since summer there have been around twenty of them. He invited me over to Telliskivi to go to an underground party, which later turned out to be tech house.

Kiwa Noid starting his robotic electro live at EKKM.

But as I got over there I ended up in the middle of Tallinn Fashion Week. People were out between the shows of Liisi Eesmaa and Aldo Järvsoo. There was nothing else to do than to somehow get into the show without paying 8€ for it. In the end we concluded that probably no one had paid the ticket.

Fahionistas between the Fashion week shows.

I started going through the ten ways to get into a party and thought of using the method number one to get in. I was calling a friend to ask if she had a spare +1 while standing in front of the door. A lady turned to me and told me she had a +1 and I could get in with her. I didn't think twice and took the opportunity.

The fashion show at Telliskivi.

It was crowded inside and I couldn't see too much of the show, but I saw enough. It was a parade of grays, whites with patterns and an occasional black passed by. It was the show by Aldo Järvsoo. The part that most impressed the crowd, was when the last models skirt had such a steep cut that her ass was showing. People were clapping and whistling for her.

Another project by Taavi Tulev with Jaan Tätte Jr on the left and Mari on the right.

Next stop was Apartment 404. It was the birthday party for Okeiko, who is a local designer and illustrator. The whole party was broadcasted live to the internet. The line-up included Hendrik Kaljujärv, whose lives are pure magic, a project by Taavi Tulev (I didn't catch the name) and possibly a Krishna Dj who ended the event. At some point we blocked two cameras with signs that sent greetings to our friend Henry who was watching from France.

Is there a better way  to end the night than lying on the carpet listening to a Krishna Dj play Prodigy.

The event had a special aura to it that I haven't encountered in last years. As it turns out there were 1000 people watching the night altogether and at peak time there were 100 simultaneous watchers.

This is how we ended our night at 3:30 on Friday night.
See you soon, I'm playing a set next Friday at Genklubi in Tartu.

Models and Garage

"...tracks which includes suggestive electro pop progressions having reference points to some disco vibes and electroclash-esque convulsive hooks"

I used morse code in my new track "Speed Courrier". Have a listen, maybe you will understand the message.
Erki Moeshow's afterparty was great. The set I played was a bit early but it was short and sweet. I left out all the low tempo and mellow tracks and went for an all in attack. The people, who had made it to the basement, which is Wabandust, before midnight danced away for the half an hour, with some casualties. The first-time organizer Karin took care of everything and checked it twice. Her clothes and hair were covered with safety-pins just in case something was loose. Except for the warm backstage ciders foaming, everything was under control.

I also played another set for Garage48. It's been great working with them. Their hub is in a building that used to be a hip-hop shop and a cafe. From those times there are some funky design elements like golden stairs, graffiti on the walls and neon lights around columns. It's likely that I will be back there playing very soon.

See you soon
