Musicians, models, police

Crappy shit and piss nonsense is what all your music and performances are. Don't never ever play again. (Anonymous youtube user in 2010)

Welcome back!
We organized a local Soundcloud meetup in Tartu. Out of 30 invited musicians, producers and DJs 6 were interested in meeting and discussing.

Mimicry

I gave a short presentation about the basic notions of band branding. Kaarel talked about organizing events and his experiences and basis for choosing acts. The talks continued in Nälg for hours and ended with us fleeing to nearby ruins when a thunderstorm started.

We're going to have another meeting this wednesday so if you know any musicians in Tartu, send them our way. We also welcome DJs and managers. Our goal is to get the scene moving and inspire people to be more active. It's a great boost to meet other musicians, producers and whonot and to share insights.

Time to smoke.

The third "Danger! Danger!" in Nälg, together with Kiwanoid. We decorated the room with "Falck Security" tape to let people know about the danger. We had a red beacon light which we couldn't get to work sadly. The theme was "crime scene", but despite our loud efforts the police didn't show up.

I was happy to see so many old goers and new faces in Nälg. The night almost ended in a fight between a local theater director and a nondescript chav. Luckily the barmaid calmed them down. Also I was approached by a young lad. He said he had been sent by 7 people who wanted me to play track 4 on this Christmas CD. I didn't panic, the older DJs had taught me what to do. I calmly told him that requests are 50€. He didn't pay, so no deal. There will be a fourth "Danger! Danger!", but I haven't decided if in June or September. Photos of the party by Keiu Maasik.

Uncle Volodja has been downloaded 24 times. Help it reach 50 downloads and I'll upload the next track. It's between techno and electro, Dj Hell and Rebotini. So download it and tell your great aunts to do the same.

I'm playing at the afterparty for Erki Moeshow on Saturday, so if you want fashion and a party, come on over. It's a party through three floors. Each banging to it's own tune. Kazk, Marek Poel and Huggo are playing as well. All the girls attending will be either looking good or well dressed, so you know you can't go wrong.

See you soon!

Morning, banks and stars: Tallinn Music Week part 2

Working as a musician means living in a bus for a year

...Waking up on last Saturday wasn't easy, but it had to be done. No breakfast and a tram full of angry people later I was back at the Hotel's conference center. (click here for part one)

Knob twiddling

One of the highlights of the conference was Edward Bicknell who has been the manager for Dire Straits and other celebrities. The first gig he booked was Pink Floyd and it was for 100£. He had some unbelievable stories about Led Zeppelin's deaf sound guy and what not. He was the first multimillionaire I've seen. Really rich people seem to have this aura of confidence which says: "I'm not afraid of anything, I have money to pay for it."

Check my demo panel at Tallinn Music Week.

I dropped my demo into the check my demo box and hoped it would get picked. "#¤%& it  didn't! Mart Avi was a favorite and Kazk, a close second. Then I had to go to sound check at LHV Bank. I even made my first video test in the backstage. Check it out:

I had some breakfast (not a burger) and then played my show. Two toddlers were very enthused and broke out their dance moves, other people stood still or were spinning in their chairs. After the show I got to sign a couple of autographs and to take some photos. At that point I had been squeezed dry and just wanted a power nap.

Supersonic dancer

A brief visit to a friend's place with pasta and then we went to Von Krahl for all the indie bands. I didn't see a single act on Saturday. Mostly because the venue was packed full and the most spacious place was the delegate lounge. The night ended between four and five.

Special cards for TMW. You can ask for one if you see me.

It was a great festival and an introduction to the big music world. A bit sad that I didn't get a mention in the international media, but it will change soon.

Make it a Fluon moment!

Leaving Estonia!

photo: Alver Linnamägi

The art auction approaches and my dream island is waiting for a buyer. There's a photo of the exhibition opening from another newspaper. I'm in the middle. As it turns out I won't be here at the time of the auction. Instead I will be on another dream island - Sicily to be precise. Going there to rest from the hard fall weather. Walking in the sunshine eating pizza and enjoying fragolino. The auction takes place on the 8th of october in Hotel Dorpat 17:00.
The Tallinn Daggers single with my remix will be available soon. It will be released the second week of October. I am eager to hear the other remixes, one from my friend Kalvik and also to see the design. Even the sound of the track could be a surprise as I haven't yet heard the master.

In these past weeks I took a while to listen to new music in the trash/dirty electro scene and to feel the directions that the scene is going toward. I discovered some artists that I now like: Haezer, Dead disco drivers and Shekel to name a few. Their dirty electro sound inspires me to follow a similar direction although my music will bend a couple of rules in music. In addition I have been researching the technical aspects of sound, just reading FM and online forums. The information that is out there can be really confusing all together but there's a lot to be learned. "Learn everything you can and then forget it and do what you want" as someone put it. Reading something like FM really shows you what long way you have to go. Comparing the stuff they use to my gear is inspiring and frustrating at the same time. I will give it my best and soon you'll have a taste of the results.

You have read this post all the way through! To get my updates like my page on facebook and also take the time to suggest your friends that they should hear my music.
